Val, this is such a rich post. Your thoughts about communion and how relationships - our own back yard - are such a powerful place for development. It reminds me of an African saying, “a bird makes its nest with the feathers of others.”
I actually heard an article on NPR about how birds are making their nests with cigarette butts to stave off parasitic insects (successfully, it turns out!), but the visual and the sentiment of the feathers that you share is so much more beautiful, Danny!
And, yes, development happens in community. We see that in our own lives, in those of the people we accompany…and never has this felt more integral than it does at this moment. When all else is uncertain, the capacity to see ourselves through others’ witness is a profound developmental gift.
